More about me Marscha and Rückenwind Reisen!

Insights

I'm Marscha and I've been working at Rückenwind Reisen for over 13 years now and I'm super happy and satisfied there.

I am a trained wholesale and foreign trade clerk and after my apprenticeship I decided to catch up on my A-levels. It has always been my dream to work in tourism, so after successfully completing my A-levels I went to the University of Applied Sciences in Wilhelmshaven. There I studied tourism management and, in addition to two tourism majors, I also majored in business and marketing.

My degree programme offered me many opportunities to gain experience abroad, so I spent some time in New Zealand and a few weeks in Spain. But I was a bit lost after my studies. I was looking for the right job for quite a while, so I had a few stops in between. One stop was working in an advertising agency, which allowed me to get to know various programmes that help me a lot today.

And about a year after my studies, I started working at Rückenwind Reisen and still enjoy being there today, not only because I really like my colleagues, but also because I enjoy working with our partners and customers. Working for a cycling holiday specialist is a lot of fun. I myself have already been to Provence, the Weser cycle path, the IJsselmeer, Berlin, Potsdam, Croatia by bike and boat and have also been able to get to know many of our ships on our trips by bike and boat. Two years ago, I also went on a hiking trip with our partner Eurohike.

Hiking from Merano to Lake Garda! In a word - wonderful! A super worthwhile trip with great tour guides on site. I was able to experience Johannes and Sebastian in action there and they both looked after us brilliantly. The hotels were great throughout and the landscape is enchanting. Sometimes you hike between vineyards along small streams and sometimes in the valley where the trees and steep cliffs tower above you. However, I was there in May - which has the advantage that it's not too hot yet, but also the disadvantage that some paths were still covered in snow and sometimes impassable. But there were always alternatives and great hiking trails away from the mountains.

Knowing that we could enjoy the cycle tours despite the hilly landscape, the decision in favour of the southern Dalmatia region was quickly made.

I myself am a big fan of our neighbouring country, the Netherlands! These beautiful little towns with small harbours and cosy houses are just great. The attitude to life there is fun, cosy and always friendly. Our neighbours know how to enjoy life. I particularly like the island of Ameland. The beaches, the dunes, the cycle paths, the hospitality and, above all, you can simply switch off here. I like doing yoga myself, so I think this island is just perfect. Three days there are like three weeks' holiday. But I'm also incredibly fond of the IJsselmeer. The quality of the cycle paths, the hospitality of the hotels - if there are any problems, every hotel is just super helpful and lovely. Maybe it's also the language, but I find the Dutch extremely likeable. And I am particularly proud of the fact that many partners praise our Rückenwind customers time and time again. They are always friendly, patient and welcoming. Who doesn't like to hear that?

Three years ago, I travelled to Croatia by bike and boat with my dear colleague Ilka. Also highly recommended. Arriving at the airport and getting to the jetty is quick and easy, and as soon as you've checked into your cabin, your holiday can begin. Every day after breakfast there was a short briefing for the day ahead and the tour guides always gave great tips for the trip. You also quickly make new friends. However, I recommend an electric bike to everyone - unless you are really fit and love a sporting challenge. I like cycling myself, but first you have to climb the island. That means it's uphill at first! But the electric bike is great fun!

Speaking of electric bikes - we've been working with Velo de Ville for a few years now. I've often grabbed an electric bike from the garage and left my car at work. My daily commute is about 36 kilometres, but with these great bikes it's really easy to manage - even without sweating - because I still have to work after the journey. The support is barely noticeable and it's really easy and comfortable to cycle - even when there's a headwind.

I am very grateful for this great, fulfilling job that has already given me many trips, but also for the approach of the company and the partner companies. This industry is really friendly. We know each other well and usually know each other personally and we are on first-name terms. This may not be common in every industry, but anyone with a passion for cycling will recognise this uncomplicated, personal and cordial way of working together.

So at this point, a big thank you to my great colleagues and partners who make my day-to-day work a great pleasure. And many thanks also to our customers for their interest in me and I hope I was able to show a little more about us and Rückenwind Reisen.
