Poland and Masuria

3,000 lakes and countless storks

Masuria is also known as the land of 3,000 lakes; it is a region where thousands of storks find their home, a region where forests are unspoilt, heathland covers large areas and rivers flow with clear water. Ernst Wiechert and Siegfried Lenz lived in Masuria for a time and left their mark.

Cycling from Warsaw to Gdansk

Warsaw is the first highlight of this interesting cycle tour. The cultural diversity, the beautiful historic centre of Warsaw and good restaurants everywhere. Further on, the Mikolaiki water sports centre is located in Masuria between Lake Mikolajsky and Lake Talty. Excursion boats ply the lakes around the city and sailing boats dance on the water. The town itself has a large marina and restaurants and cafés all around invite you to linger. The pretty Hanseatic metropolis of Gdansk is at the very end of your cycle route through Poland - another highlight at the end of the tour.

Bike tours in Poland

From Krytyn to the Wolfsschanze

Krytyn is the starting point for this cycling holiday in Poland and offers the opportunity for a wonderful canoe tour on the Krytyna. From here, your cycling holiday takes you to the Puszcza Piska primeval forest and, after another night in Krytyn, to Mragowo, formerly Sensburg, which lies in the middle of the beautiful lakes and forests of the Mragowskie Lake District. However, Masuria is not just a nature experience in a marvellous region: time and again, magnificent buildings have been erected in the unspoilt countryside, above all the Holy Linden Tree. The name Holy Lime Tree stands for a Jesuit monastery, which is considered the most beautiful baroque building in Poland. The magnificent basilica is well worth a visit, as is the monastery's famous organ from 1721, which was built by Jussua Mosengels. Masuria presents itself quite differently during your cycling holiday when you visit the Wolf's Lair. Here, in the former Führer headquarters, the darkest part of German history is suddenly close at hand. But the dark times are over and will - hopefully - never return.

Pomerania and Baltic Sea
