Tips for a cycling holiday with a dog

Fun for people and animals
Countries and people

Do you share your home with a dog and are planning a cycling holiday? Then you don't necessarily have to part with your four-legged friend for the trip. Take him with you. This is easily possible on some cycle holidays. The Rückenwind team will also be happy to help you make your cycling holiday with your dog a great time together. The following six tips will also help to ensure that your journey is a pleasure for both you and your pet.

1) Do not overtax your dog!

You know your dog best: Is he an enthusiastic and enduring runner or does he prefer a leisurely pace? Choose routes with a length and inclines that both your dog and you can handle well. And ride the respective routes at a pace that your four-legged friend can master just as well as you.

2) Rides based in one hotel are a good option.

Not all bike trips are equally well suited for a vacation with a dog. Star tours (youre overnight stay is in one hotel) are sometimes particularly good. You get to know the respective vacation region on day trips by bike and always return to the same accommodation in the evening. These tours can be more individualized than trips from A to B. Of course, this does not mean that other cycling vacations with a dog are impossible.

Info: We will be happy to inform you in the respective hotel about the conditions and possibilities to bring a dog.

3) Take something to drink with you

Our tours often pass rivers, streams and lakes. This gives your dog the opportunity to drink something and cool down. Nevertheless, you should always have a bottle of water and a bowl with you. Then you can give your animal drink at any time, even if once no body of water in the vicinity.

4) Avoid too much heat

In summer temperatures of, say, 25 degrees Celsius, the pavement can heat up to over 50 degrees. No dog's paw can withstand that. So choose routes wisely on hot days, and be a little wary of sections that are in the blazing sun.

5) Does your dog follow you (in all cases)?

When you are out and about with your dog, you will always encounter people and animals: cows in the pasture, perhaps deer at the edge of the forest, walkers with dogs or joggers. It is important that your dog listens to you in all these situations.

6) Please do not leave anything where it does not belong.

This also applies to your dog's droppings. If he does his business off the path in the forest, you don't have to do anything else. But if he chooses the forest path or sidewalk, you should clean up after him. Leave the paths and sidewalks as you would like to find them, so that everyone can enjoy a nice vacation.
