Itinerary

Handover of the travel documents and, if applicable, the rental bikes. Take a first stroll through the charming old town.

Transfer to the Brenner Pass by train in the morning. From the small border town of Brenner on the newly built cycle path, mostly along the Eisack river, first to the small village of Gossensass and then immediately to the once mighty Fugger town of Sterzing. Here you can take a longer break before continuing downhill along the cycle path to the beautiful Reifenstein Castle and Franzensfeste with its famous fortress. From there, there are only a few more kilometers back to Brixen.

The old railroad line from Bressanone/Brixen to Bolzano/Bozen has been adapted into a fantastic cycle path. The route leads steadily and gently downhill through the medieval town of Klausen with the Säben monastery. The valley becomes ever narrower and the vineyards of Italy's northernmost wine-growing region draw closer. All too soon you reach Bolzano! Don't miss out on a walk through the Laubengasse alley to the famous “Ötzi Museum” and a glass of wine on Waltherplatz square.

Along the cycle path past Sigmundskron Castle with the Messner Mountain Museum to Eppan and onwards with fantastic views over the valley to Lake Kaltern. Wine and apples in abundance line the route. Return to Bolzano via the Montiggl Lakes nature reserve with wonderful swimming opportunities.

From Bolzano, first head south along the River Isarco and then follow the new cycle path directly along the River Adige to Merano. The spa town at the confluence of the Passer and Adige rivers awaits you with numerous sights. Visit the castle, stroll along the Tappeinerweg and enjoy a creamy gelato on the spa promenade.

Take the Vinschgau Railway towards the Reschen Pass. First you go from Mals to Glurns with its completely preserved medieval town wall. Via the mining ruins through Schlanders down to Meran. Castles and palaces lie along or high above the route. You can enjoy views of the impressive Ortler massif and the Stelvio Pass while cycling. The route can be shortened individually.

After breakfast, individual return journey or start of your extension.
