Bolzano-Verona

Along the Adige to Romeo & Juliet

Nature trip or cultural trip? How about the perfect combination? This cycle tour from the capital of South Tyrol to the festival city of Verona takes you on a predominantly flat route along the River Adige, through lush orchards and past unique mountain scenery to cities with timeless culture. Let yourself be whisked away to an icy world that existed 5000 years ago in the ‘Ötzi’ museum in Bolzano, marvel at frescoes from the 13th to 15th centuries in the cathedral in Trento. And daydream at the setting of what is probably the most beautiful, tragic love story in the world: in Verona, the city of Romeo and Juliet.

Itinerary

Information meeting and bike hire. Individual city tour through the beautiful old town (Lauben).

Through numerous orchards and vineyards in the area of the South Tyrolean Wine Road past many castles, palaces and ruins to the wine village of Eppan and on to Lake Kaltern in the charming wine village of Auer.

Mostly along the marvellous cycle path along the Adige, partly through the orchards to Salurn, where the German-speaking part of South Tyrol ends. The embankment paths lead all the way to Trento with its beautiful old town centre.

Continue along the Adige to Rovereto. From here, the tour leads westwards towards Lake Garda. In Mori, you can sample the famous pistachio ice cream in the Gelateria Bologna. After a short climb, the descent to the lake follows to Torbole and on to Riva. From here, take a boat trip along the entire length of the lake.

A tour of the old town centre of Desenzano and Sirmione is definitely worthwhile. Then continue over the gentle Veronese hills to Verona. You are sure to get a first impression of the festival city today. Romeo and Juliet will still be in town tomorrow!

Past the sights of Verona to the River Mincio (outlet of Lake Garda) and on to enchanting Mantua. Return journey by train.

Today you have to say goodbye to Italian flair. Or would you like to stay a few more days in sunny Verona?
