Weser bike path | Stroll tour

From Hann. Münden to Minden

Our 8-day leisurely tour takes you along the Weser Cycle Path. As a pleasure cyclist, you can explore the most beautiful aspects of the region at your leisure, savour the gastronomic diversity and experience the unique cultural assets up close. This tour is pure relaxation - your body and mind will thank you for it!

The stroll in a nutshell

‘Where Werra and Fulda kiss, they must atone for their names. And here through their kiss, German to the sea the Weser river is born.’ This melodious poem heralds the start of your journey at the Weser Stone in Hann. Münden via Gieselwerder, known as the Snow White Village on the German Fairytale Route, you reach one of the highlights of the journey: Bad Karlshafen. The baroque harbour is not only the heart of the town, but also a wonderful place to stroll and linger.

Other stops on the tour include Höxter and Bodenwerder, before heading to the Pied Piper town of Hamelin. This town has much more to offer than just the world-famous legend. Put your feet in the sand on the town beach ‘Heach’ and follow the golden rat to the Weser island. Finally, cycle via Rinteln to Minden on the final stage of day 8.

Regional treasures along the route

You can explore around 520 kilometres (323 mi) of beautiful natural landscapes, picturesque small towns and cultural highlights on the Weser Cycle Path. Bursfelde Abbey, Corvey Castle and the Imperial Abbey near Höxter are just some of the places you should stop off at. Hardly any other route is as varied in its surroundings as the Weser Cycle Route. Low mountain ranges, the Weser breakthrough, marshes and finally the sea form a conglomerate of natural beauty. A particular attraction of the cycle tour is the Weser breakthrough at Porta Westfalica, where the river changes from the highlands to the lowlands.

Three facts about your trip

  • Cultural treasure Weser Renaissance: The Wedding House and the Pied Piper's House in Hamelin, Bückeburg Castle or the town hall in Hann. Münden - all these and countless other buildings belong to this special architectural epoch.
  • Savour with all your senses: Believe us, this trip is pure pleasure: touch the fine porcelain in Fürstenberg, smell the seductive fragrances from Holzminden, hear the babbling of the river, taste the traditional dishes and see the unbridled beauty of this region.
  • Our stroll tours are characterised by their relaxed route. You have plenty of time to explore the beauties along the way and stop off at cosy restaurants. The individual stages are between 23 and 40 kilometres (14-25 mi) long and have no gradients to speak of. The paths are excellent - in the truest sense of the word! The Weser Cycle Route has twice been voted Germany's favourite cycle route. In addition, you will find numerous tips and useful information for your journey in our extensive documentation.

Itinerary

After your individual arrival in Hann. Münden in the late afternoon, you will be given information and handed over your bikes (if booked). The three-river town is where the Fulda and Werra rivers meet at the Weserstein to form the Weser. Over 700 restored half-timbered houses from six centuries make up Hann. Mündens city centre. The town hall of Hann. Münden is considered one of the most beautiful representative buildings from the Weser Renaissance.

Your cycle tour should start at the Weserstein. This is exactly where the Werra and Fulda rivers ‘kiss’. The stage leads to Gieselwerder via Hemeln and past the former Benedictine monastery of Bursfelde.

Today you cycle to the baroque Huguenot town of Bad Karlshafen. The centre of Bad Karlshafen offers an interesting contrast to the usual half-timbered idyll with its pretty, renovated houses in baroque style. You will spend the night in Bad Karlshafen.

There are numerous highlights along the way today: the town of Fürstenberg with its porcelain manufactory and the old Hanseatic town of Höxter with more than 160 listed buildings, mostly half-timbered houses.

Many a romantic village along the way invites you to linger. Corvey Castle, the former imperial abbey near Höxter, offers a delightful mix of art and culture. The romantic town of Bodenwerder was made famous by the world-famous Baron of Lies von Münchhausen.

The Pied Piper town of Hamelin impresses with its intact old town centre, wonderful half-timbered houses and buildings in the typical Weser Renaissance style from the 16th and 17th centuries.

The 13th-century town of Rinteln boasts numerous Weser Renaissance buildings.

At Porta Westfalica, the river breaks through the Wiehen and Weser mountains and reaches the North German lowlands. Minden was once a flourishing trading town in the Middle Ages, but was badly destroyed in the Second World War. It was rebuilt as part of an exemplary urban redevelopment programme.
