Lake Constance charm

Cycling holidays at the Swabian Sea

Cycling holidays on Lake Constance are enjoying great popularity this year. The shallow shore paths at Lake Constance are ideal for beginners but also for holidaymakers who want to cycle relaxed. You cycle in front of the magnificent scenery of the Alps.

A very special flair on this bike trip

This classic tour covers the entire lake and all highlights such as the historic cities of Konstanz, Stein am Rhein, Meersburg and Lindau as well as the festival city of Bregenz. The first stage is slightly hilly, otherwise it is flat, mostly on own, asphalted bike paths near the shore around the lake.

The Lake Constance Cycle Path

This bicycle trail runs around Lake Constance with a length of about 260 kilometres. It is one of the most popular cycling routes in Europe. With an area of 536 km2, Lake Constance is the largest lake in Germany. One of the peculiarities is certainly that it belongs to Germany as well as to Austria and Switzerland. The climate around Lake Constance is very mild with warm summers and temperate winters and is therefore often referred to as Mediterranean. A perfect bike path!

Itinerary

Arrival in Constance and bike handover (if booked) at our partner's office in Constance.

You start your journey in Constance, the largest city on Lake Constance, which still has a medieval feel to it today. In 1414, it was the scene of the only church council north of the Alps. A small museum commemorates the Czech reformer Jan Hus, who was burned to death here. The town's landmark is the statue of Imperia, a monument to the prostitutes of the time of the Council. The aquariums at the Sea Life Centre and the National Archaeological Museum are also highly recommended.

Cycle along the southern shore of Untersee through picturesque Swiss fishing villages to Stein am Rhein with its frescoed medieval houses. From there, it is only a stone's throw to the small town of Gailingen or towards Wangen and Hemmenhofen.

Today you cycle around the Höri peninsula, where Otto Dix and Hermann Hesse once lived. You take a break in the old imperial town and present-day spa town of Radolfzell. You then cross the Bodanrück and have to put up with a very short climb. Your arrival at Lake Überlingen is rewarded with fantastic views of the Swabian Sea.

Cycle through vineyards to Friedrichshafen. On the way, you will pass the baroque pilgrimage church of Birnau. In Meersburg you should visit the beautiful old town and the old castle. A visit to the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen is well worthwhile. Your journey continues to Kressbronn or to the island town of Lindau.

On today's route, you will soon reach Bregenz, the capital of Vorarlberg in Austria, famous for its annual festival on the largest lake stage in the world. Finally you reach Höchst, cross the border again shortly afterwards and cycle a few more kilometres to Rorschach, Horn or Arbon.

The last day of your tour takes you through Romanshorn with the largest Lake Constance harbour in Switzerland. You continue along Lake Constance back to Constance. You can stop for a swim along the way. Round off your trip with a stroll through the old town or an ice cream at the harbour.

After breakfast, individual return journey or start of your extension.

Note: If you are travelling with your own bikes, any stage location can be the start/finish.
