Kocher-Jagst Cycle path

Kocher Jagst cycle path

The twin rivers Kocher and Jagst make for a marvellous cycling experience. Sometimes you cycle flat along the river, sometimes the route becomes more challenging when you change river valley. Our cycle route takes you from Schwäbisch Hall's baroque market square via Götz von Berlichingen's castle in Jagsthausen to Bad Wimpfen, one of the most beautiful half-timbered towns in the south-west! The Kocher-Jagst cycle route is one of the insider tips for cycle tours - you will soon realise why.

Itinerary

Your cycle tour begins in Schwäbisch Hall. The colourful half-timbered houses give Schwäbisch Hall a special charm. Visit the town's market square, where you will find many impressive buildings such as the baroque town hall and the Romanesque-Gothic church of St Michael.

Your first stage takes you through lush natural landscapes to Mulfingen, past the town of Langenburg. Langenburg Castle stands guard high above the Jagst valley on a mountain ridge. The cycle path takes you directly along the Jagst to Mulfingen. Enjoy the tranquillity of nature, the hospitable people and the delicious food and drink in the cosy restaurants.

You cycle along the Jagst to Jagsthausen, always directly along the green banks of the river. The river has been closely integrated into the shell limestone landscape and runs through the valley in many loops. Jagsthausen is the home of the knight Götz von Berlichingen. There is not only his castle, but also two other castles in Jagsthausen, the Red Castle and the White Castle.

Today you reach the Neckar! You will recognise the impressive silhouette of Bad Wimpfen from afar. There are numerous historic buildings in the town. The blue tower, the stone house and the Palatinate Church are particularly striking. Visit the salt mine in Bad Friedrichshall and experience the history of salt and mining on a tour.

After following the Jagst for the first few stages, today you cycle along the Kocher. The landscape is characterised by wide meadows, fields, farmland and green forests. You will once again be a guest in Jagsthausen, switching from the Kocher valley back to the Jagst valley. Visit the Roman baths, a small open-air museum that shows the reconstructed foundations of a Roman bath.

Your last stage takes you back to Schwäbisch Hall. Most of the time, you cycle under the green leaves of the verdant valley slopes. Braunsbach with Tierberg Castle and Braunsbach Palace is on your way. In Schwäbisch Hall, the beautiful half-timbered houses line the hillside and make the townscape unforgettable.

After breakfast, individual return journey or start of your extension.
