Bike Tour Usedom

Rügen, Hiddensee and Usedom

By bike to the baltic islands

The beauty of the Baltic Sea is mesmerising. It is as if it is studded with pearls: One of these pearls is undoubtedly the cliffs of Jasmund with its chalk cliffs. The famous painter Caspar David Friedrich captured them on canvas. Equally enticing are the forest areas, the avenues with ancient giant trees, the early stone graves and the massive brick churches on the islands. On Hiddensee you will also experience the great charm of a small island where cars have no place. Life is peaceful and tranquil. Islands have their very own character. You will be enchanted by Rügen, Hiddensee and Usedom.

Itinerary

Individual journey to Stralsund. With its Hanseatic old town, this city is the gateway to the island of Rügen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The new Regenbrücke bridge, next to the old Rügen dam, impressively connects the mainland with the island.

In the morning by boat (incl.) to Hiddensee. You explore the car-free island. Spend the day cycling and hiking. In the afternoon, continue by ferry (incl.) to Rügen, possibly a short cycle tour to Cape Arkona. Overnight stay in Wittow or the surrounding area.

Via the long beach of the Schaabe you reach Jasmund, the peninsula with the famous chalk cliffs. Visit the national park centre (on your own) before you speed downhill to Sassnitz. Then via Mukran or a detour to Binz to the centre of the island to Bergen. Overnight stay in or near Bergen.

Putbus, the white town of Rügen, is looking forward to your visit.

Through the south of the island to the Glewitz ferry. Cycle along a shady avenue or narrow riverside paths to Greifswald (birthplace of C. D. Friedrich, Eldena monastery ruins, university town, pubs, harbour, pre-Pomeranian cultural town).

In the morning by train (incl.) from Greifswald to Anklam. Wonderful cycle tour across the Peenestrom to the island of Usedom. Get to know the quiet hinterland of Usedom. We particularly recommend the moated castle of Mellentin, where you can enjoy a home-brewed beer.  Spend the night in one of the imperial spas or the surrounding area.

The imperial seaside resorts await you with an unrivalled splendour of spa architecture on the German Baltic coast.

A highlight! Cycle along the wooded cliffs and always close to the beach from seaside resort to seaside resort in the north of the island. An overnight stay in Zinnowitz/surrounding area or Karlshagen.

Via Wolgast or alternatively via Peenemünde along the Bodden coast through pine forest, coastal groves and cliffs (3-6 m / 10-20 ft high) to Greifswald and on to Stralsund. Hourly train journey Greifswald - Stralsund possible.

After breakfast, individual return journey or start of your extension.
