Itinerary

Upon arriving in Flensburg, you should take an excursion to the harbour – the museum wharf and the beautiful old warehouses are a must-see. The German part of the Baltic Sea Cycle Route starts close to the city, as does your tour in Schleswig-Holstein.

You start your stage not on a bike, but on the water. Your way to Kappeln is accompanied by the bright yellow of the flowering rape fields on one side and the deep blue of the Baltic Sea on the other.

Did you know that you can see one of the region’s largest collections of ship’s in a bottle in Kappeln? Before you start your second stage on the Baltic Sea Cycle Route, you should visit this collection of miniature ships. You will cycle further inland for some stretches of today’s tour past castles and manor houses until you reach Eckernförde.

Here you can still find the typical North German character. With the ferry steamer from Friedrichsort to Laboe (included).

Pretty seaside resorts and wide beaches enchant you on this stage. Leave the Hohwachter Bucht with its kilometre-long sandy beach.

A short drive to the Bay of Lübeck, past Dahme and Kellenhusen takes us to Grömitz. Grömitz is one of the oldest and largest Baltic Sea resorts. Continue south to the Holstein Baltic Sea town of Neustadt.

Mostly along the beaches and promenades from Haffkrug, Scharbeutz and Timmendorfer Strand to Travemünde. Bathing opportunities are plentiful. Cafés, restaurants, boutiques and shops line the beaches in colourful succession. Further inland to Lübeck.

After breakfast, individual return journey or start of your extension.

The cycle route takes you through partly flat, partly slightly hilly terrain. You cycle mainly on quiet country roads, cycle paths, country lanes and forest tracks.
