Welcome to Auxerre.

You cycle in the direction of Pontigny. You cycle through short stretches of forest to the Cistercian church. It is one of the last witnesses to the great spiritual movement of the Cistercians. After the visit, continue your journey to Chablis. Here, before the the extensive valley of the fruity white wine valley, a wine tasting awaits you.

You then pass through the valley of the Serein with picturesque winegrowing villages and finally reach Noyers-sur-Serein. Noyers is one of the hundred most beautiful villages in France because of its medieval townscape.

The so-called "Terre Plaine" accompanies you on your journey towards Avallon. You will pass through Montreal. High above the river valley, this town with its 12th century collegiate church is well worth a visit. After arriving in Avallon, you can take an evening stroll. Today's route takes you through one of the most beautiful valleys in Burgundy - the Vallée du Cousin. The Cousin meanders fantastically through the romantic river valley.

It goes through the lovely Avallonnais, past hedgerow landscapes and grazing Charolais cattle to Vézelay. Before that, you cross the viaduct at a dizzying height with a view of the 17th century bridge of Pierre-Perthuis. A magnificent landscape that leads up to the eternal hill of Vézelay.

Vézelay has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and its basilica with its Romanesque sculptural decoration is worth a longer stay. About 150 figural capitals are on display, they taught many pilgrims on the way to Compostella and still impress with their expressiveness today. Space and light are available here and captivate every visitor. Wonderful descent from Vézelay to Escolives. Through deep forest landscapes we cycle along the Canal de Nivernais. And here on the towpath to Escolives.

From Escolives, cross the Yonne and the Canal du Nivernais for a detour to the beautiful wine villages of the Côtes d'Auxerre. A tasting of Crémant de Bourgogne is on the agenda before you return to the Canal du Nivernais. Continue along the banks of the Yonne to return to Auxerre.
