Provence Lavender Travel story

Round trip to the flowering period Lavender
team on tour

07. 07. 2019 – Arrival Isle-sur-la-Sorgue

Comfortable by plane from Düsseldorf to Marseille. Then we continue by train to Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. After moving into our rooms at the Hotel “Les Névons”, we take a refreshing swim in the rooftop pool.

In the evening we will take a tour of the beautiful little village “Isle-sur-la-Sorgue”, known for its water wheels and antique fairs. We end the evening with a delicious dinner in a nice restaurant right on the Sorgue.

08. 07. 2019 – Isle-sur-la-Sorgue – Vaison-la-Romaine

Let’s go to the first stage. First we reach Pernes-les-Fontaines and use the stopover for a stroll through the pretty old town.

Then we continue to Carpentras – known for its candied fruits and the delicious berlingots (fruit sweets).

In the afternoon we reach our destination – the ancient Roman city of Vaison-la-Romaine.

From the old town above you have a beautiful view over the whole city.

09. 07. 2019 – Vaison-la-Romaine – Sault

We start today’s stage with a visit to the weekly market of Vaison-la-Romaine and take the opportunity to cover ourselves for a picnic. But there are also handicrafts, clothing and a lot of other things to discover. Well-equipped we head to our stage “Sault” – located on a high plateau. That means we have to overcome a few vertical meters today. But thanks to my e-bike, the stage can be ridden comfortably. We have beautiful views along the way and there are already the first lavender fields to see. In Sault we explore the city on foot in the evening and enjoy the view of the plateau from a beautiful vantage point.

10.07.2019 Round trip Sault

In the morning we first explore the weekly market and the antique market on the viewing terrace. Then we start our tour around Sault – that means indulging in color and fragrance – lavender fields as far as the eye can see. We enjoy our ride through the beautiful lavender fields.

After our tour we visit a distillery and learn lots of interesting things about the real lavender.

11.07.2019 – from Sault to Apt

Even today, the lavender fields are still with us for a while.

12. 07. 2019 – Luberon round trip

After a few kilometers we reach the old Roman stone bridge Pont Julien from the year 3 BC. Shortly after, we pass the pretty village of Bonnieux, where again a market is taking place. We take the opportunity for a short visit.

We continue uphill and enjoy the beautiful view of Bonnieux and the Mont Ventoux in the background:

On small roads you pass through the hilly landscape of the Luberon. At the exit of Buoux we stop in a nice beer garden to have a drink. About the worth seeing place Saignon with lookout rocks it goes back to Apt and further to our accommodation. In the evening we let ourselves be spoiled by the nice hostess of the “Mas de la Tour” culinary.

13. 07. 2019 – Apt/Environment - Isle-sur-la-Sorgue

after a few kilometres we reach the town of Roussillon, famous for its ochre mining.

We make a walk on the “Sentier des ocres”, an old ochre quarry.

After the climb we earned ourselves a lunch break.

Freshly strengthened, we continue to the lavender museum. We learn a lot about the real lavender, which, unlike lavender, only grows in the dry mountains of Provence from an altitude of 800 m.

Now it’s not far to the end of our lavender journey. We’ve seen a lot

and the vast lavender fields have left a lasting impression. We end the day with a nice dinner in one of the many restaurants right on the Sorgue.

14. 07. 2020 – Return trip Isle-sur-la-Sorgue

After breakfast we use the remaining time for a visit to the large flea market in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. Then I’m afraid we have to say goodbye. We take the train back to Marseille and fly back to Düsseldorf.
